Aldar Rök
The title Aldar Rök relates to Norse mythology and refers to the end of an age whereby climatic events will destroy the world as we know it. There will be catastrophic natural disasters leading to the burning and flooding of the world.
These images were made during a particularly stressful time. I was made redundant from my job and had been unsuccessful at getting another job for quite a long time. I was obsessing about the perils of climate change and was following a few negative climate analysts. I was convinced that humanity was on the brink of an apocalyptic climatic event. Add to that my futile hopes for my family to purchase a home in Dublin. We were priced well outside of Dublin and the feeling of failure lends itself to the following images. The images I made during this time reflect my sense of hopelessness.
With 2 children in tow I set about predicting their grim future through imagery. I sensed that their future might bring with it hardship and hunger. I wanted to represent these thoughts in photography. Skirmishes with the apocalypse if you will. I cannot imagine what the future will bring now but I’m not listening or watching the same climate analysts as much as I used to. I have a sense of burying my head in the sand but I can still hear the muffled cries of climate disaster on the horizon.
