Celestium

Local to where I live in Firhouse, Tallaght has existed as it is now for about 40 years. With humble beginnings it had very few amenities when first developed. It is probably home to about 80,000 people today.

The project is titled ‘Celestium’, a futuristic development. The desired outcome for the future of Tallaght is for the population to make their opinions known on how they want their homeland improved and developed.

“Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody.”
Jane Jacobs, The Death and Life of Great American Cities (1961)

It draws me in as it’s not quite a city per se but has enough infrastructure to discover interesting elements every time I pass through. I wanted to somehow dig a little deeper in terms of investigating the expanding diaspora. Like many parts of Ireland today Tallaght is undergoing change. There are new apartment complexes being built adding to traffic congestion.

This project will be ongoing for as long as I am living nearby.
